Squishy, very squishy........

As I am sitting here my heart is racing over an email I just read and what I need to do about it.

On the day of the last football game I drove Ian to the Jr. High where we meet to caravan to where ever our game is that day. I pulled into my spot and got out opened the driver side sliding door and Ian got out. We were standing between my car and another and there wasnt' much room so when the car next to me started to back up I moved Ian to the forward part of the car and onto and island to help him put on his football gear. As I turned around I watched the woman backing up slide her car along the back edge of my open sliding door. She got out and looked at my door but said that she thought it was minor and could be buffed out but I noted some chipped paint. Also when she was sliding her car along my door I made a mental note that my car was between the white lines and not into her spot, not even on the lines. Close to them but not on them.

When I saw her in the stands at the game she never even said she was sorry about hiting me (it should have been the first sign to me) and at the end of the season party never mentionde how sorry she was and to let her know how much it would cost. I guess I kind of figured that she was not going to be too happy to hear from me the cost (especially the lowest of the three bids I got was 907.00) so I couldn't bring myself to tell her in person and sent her an email. The following is the email thread:

Thanks Lee for all your help. I really appreciated it.

So, I hate to give you this information but I checked into getting my door fixed and it is more that I expected. I went ahead and got three estimates and the lowest one was for Kiadel's uto Body in Lake Oswego for $907. The highest was for Tualatin auto body for $1020.00.

yikes - wow!

I feel awkward saying this, but I hope you will take partial responsibility for the situation. I had a passenger in the car and she agreed with me that the way you parked and the fact that you left your door open contributed to it happening. Our cars were spaced adequately apart at the front, but at the back, they were very closely parked, with the sliding door open, it left very little space between us. Unfortunately, I did not realize they were so close. I am sorry it happened, but am hoping, due to the circumstances, we might split the bill.

Ok, then I guess we both can turn this in to our insurances. I will give all three appraisals to mine and they can send them to yours.

Send it to your insurance, figure out where/how etc you plan to have it done and then send me a copy of the bill and I'll send you my portion, up to $500.

So, I talked with my insurance company and they say because my car was NOT moving that even if I was parked over the white lines (which I was not) she still would be 100% at falt because she was in motion. So my heart is in my throat with the thought that I need to send her that information in the next email. I don't have her insurance information but my insurance company seems to think they will be able to find the information. The very bad thing is that I am sure that our paths will cross again through sports and I know it will not be plesent. As I said Squishy, VERY SQUISHY!

Sue the bitch -- SERIOUSLY -- turn this over to your insurance company and wash your hands of it. Honestly, these days -- doesn't anyone ever take responsibility. What are we role-modeling for our kids??

Not too protective of a friend, huh? Just so you you know -- if the roles were reversed and you hit her -- I'd tell you the complete opposite :)
