Lacrosse

Lacrosse season has started and it has started off cold and rainy but it is turning out to be a good season anyway. Last year Ian played goalie a few times and really liked it and he has requested to play that position several times this year as well. I missed one the games and at the next practice 3 of the dad's came over to tell me what a great job he had done as goalie in the last game.

A shot of the coaches talking to the team. Ian is #84
I love these two shots of Ian throwing the ball, I got him in the air.
Align Center
Ian is on a team with his classmate Donny again this year which is nice for both of them

Sports, sports & more sports/ grateful catch-up 32, 33, & 34

We started off the day with a 9 am game for Sarah that I took her to leaving Terry behind with Ian and Emily {who's game was at 10 am} I am so grateful that Sarah had a wonderful day/game. WE have had some tough practices with lost of crying and whining going on but after a GREAT practice on Friday and a wonderful game on Saturday - I think she is getting it under control. She hates the practice game they play called "sharks & minnows" where the goal is to steal the ball from each other and for some reason this sends her over the edge but not only has she mastered that issue she is turning into an aggressive soccer player. When the Olympics were on TV she said that she wanted to be in the Olympics one day and when I asked her what sport she planed on playing she replied "soccer". I have used that little bit of information along with making sure she is fed and it looks like we have turned the corner. So, Yeah for Sarah and her new found soccer skills {emotional and physical}.

We moved on to Emily's double header games at 10 and 11 am {lucky for me it was the field next to Sarah's game so I just walked on over} but let me just say WHAT ARE THEY THINKING GIVING KINDERGARTNERS DOUBLE HEADERS.I am grateful for the fact that Emily even gets out on the field for one game little lone two on the same day! These pictures are quite deceiving, making it look as though she plays soccer quite aggressively {note the picture of her growling - her team is called the Cheetahs after all} but really it is hard to get her out on the field for any length of time {except when she is posing for me} and she falls down often {almost every time the other team gets a goal} and when she falls down she then decides that she needs to inspect the grass quite closely and really I think she prefers to "hug" her teammates more than she likes to chase the ball.

Even before Emily's 2nd game could get started I took Connor and Ian to get lunch and then to the football field for their game that was at 1 pm but they needed to be at the field at 11:45. This week it is hard to find something to be grateful for when it comes to football, however, I am going to try and look on the bright side and I am going to be grateful for the fact that Ian doesn't keep count of the number of plays he get put in for. I don't keep count either but it was so little it didn't feel like the 10 minimum plays but I am going to trust that those Dad's and coaches wouldn't put winning a little 'ol football game in front of rules that were put in place to make sure everyone gets a chance to play or even worse in front of a players hurt feelings - but I know better and football is a lot of things but it is nothing about feelings.
Ian's team played a West Linn team this week with two boys on it that he know {Shane - in his 4th grade class & Ty - our neighbor} and West Linn kicked there butt 22-0 and the coaches were not happy. In fact they were told that they were going to have a practice from he-double-toothpicks. Ian jokingly asked if he could miss practice on Tuesday and the first thing that ran through my mind was of course you can, you played so little how can you even slightly be held responsible for that loss. But Ian was joking and said that if he missed the coach might make it harder on the rest of the team and he wouldn't want that. Even though their classmate beat them they were genuinely excited to see him and I took a picture of the three of them, so I guess I am grateful for Ian's friendships being stronger than a game too!

What a difference a lens makes

Last week 18-55 {looking like ants}

This week 100-400 {like Im on the field}

Don't be so confident

Warning: If you change the white balance on your camera make sure you change it back to normal otherwise you pictures will have an unnatural color cast to them.

This warning was given by the on-line photo teacher, which I read and thought "of course I will turn it back to normal, who wouldn't". After I took the photos in the gym the other day I was sure I changed it back but I think I may have been showing someone else how to change it and left it on tungsten lighting. When I was taking the pictures I even thought they had a blue cast to them but I was so confident that I had changed the white balance back to auto that I never even double checked and continued to take photos all through the day - football, soccer, and more soccer. I was at the last game of the day taking pictures in the shade which looked even more blue before I finally checked the white balance again and low and behold - tungsten - UGH!!!! I had taken about 50 or more photos and with the new lens too! Double UGH! Luckily I found a saturation button that I could click on it and then something in the picture that was white or gray and I got more normal tones {see below}

Em's first Soccer game

Emily had her first soccer game this weekend {how did she get old enough so quickly?} and although she was a little sad for part of the game she did quite well ending with a happy face.

Let the Games Begin

Emily's soccer game 9:00 am arrive at field at 8:45

Ian's football game  11:00 am arrive at the Jr. High at 9:00 am

Sarah's soccer game 3:40 pm arrive at field at 3:25

Terry was on call so luckily all the Thorstenson kids are on the same team as the Sedgewick's or Im not sure how either one of us would have gotten the kids where they needed to be and be on time {VERY important for football}. Kathleen arrived at my house around 9:20 and took the all the girls to the little girls soccer game and I took the boys to the Jr. High and dropped them off to ride with someone from the team to their game at Milwaukie HS then I headed to the little girls soccer game which I was about 10 minutes late for. After Em's game was over we headed to the football game where Terry was able to join us for the second half. From there we headed home for a quick break and a bite to eat. Terry stayed home with Emily who was too crabby to go to Sarah's game and I headed out the door again with Ian and Sarah. Boy and I glad that day is over but honestly every Saturday until November will be a reenactment of this one with some time changes.

I didn't have the lens I rented by the Saturday and where it wasn't a problem with the soccer games the lens I had just wasn't worth taking pictures with for Ian's football game so I took about 3 and then gave up - next weekend I hope to get better photos.
