{Ian's car - backwards}
Ian attended his third Pinewood Derby for Cub Scouts last week and although he was the first one knocked out of the running there were lessons to be learned. Ian made his car almost entirely by himself. He drew the design, cut it out, sanded, painted and with his Dad's direction tried to make the wheels faster. The car ended up being too light so we glued on some quarters and it was right on the mark the only problem was that it ended up being a bit too heavy in the back and wouldn't stay on the track when racing the direction Ian had designed it to go. We turned the car around and raced it backwards. It won a race or two but after it lost two it was out for good. Ian was sorely disappointed in the outcome of the race but took pride in the fact that he made his car himself. All in all, he had a good time. He did decide that next year {his last derby} he will take advice from his Dad on the design of the car since it was his Dad's design that got Ian 2nd place on his very first Pinewood Derby. It is tough to learn to loose, but it is a good lesson on being a good sport.
