When I picked Mickey and the kids up from the airport {at 10:40 pm} they requested we make a stop at Voodoo Doughnuts before heading home. They saw a story about it on the travel channel and got the address and wanted to make sure they made a trip there before going back to Las Vegas. Voodoo is open 24 hours a day so we made a little side trip to downtown Portland {Voodoo is near the Burnside bridge} to experience these original doughnuts. It was interesting that's for sure. First of all, the store is around a bunch of bars and it was a Friday night so it was tough to find parking without having to pay $8 for all of 15 minutes. The place is really a hole in the wall {no pun intended} that is truly quirky Portland personified and the doughnuts, well they are named names like Grape Ape, Dirt and Texas Big A-- {the big glazed doughnut pictured below} and featured all kinds of weird combinations like a maple bar with bacon on it {I was told that it tasted like pancakes with syrup and bacon - I took his word for it} and different cereal on them and yes there is one that looks like a voodoo doll. It was an interesting experience from the people to the doughnuts.
