Biography Report

and Ian did his report on
Ben Franklin

not only did they have to write the report they had to make a time line and draw a photo of their "person"  and then to top it off they had to dress up like him or her too.

here are some of the other kids in Ian's class

I knew that Ian had to dress up but I didn't realize that they had to dress up the day the report was due and the day before "due day" I asked Ian's teacher "so there report is due tomorrow but when do they need to dress up?" and she looked at me {a little like I was crazy} and told me it was tomorrow. So it was now 4 pm and Sarah had been taken to choir and needed to be picked up by 5:15 so I had one hour and 15 minutes to find "Ben Franklin". I made a few phone calls to stores that have costumes only to find out that they don't have them this time of the year. So after some thinking and a suggestion for two from some friends I decided to use an old pair of baseball pants and long white socks for the bottoms. Ian had just gotten a nice pair of shoes so I thought he could use those so all I needed now was a shirt with a ruffle and a coat if I could find it - I wasn't holding out a lot of hope. I headed to Milwaukee {the total opposite side of town from where I needed to pick up Sarah} where I knew there were at least two thrift shops. The first one was called The Red, White & Blue Thrift Shop. I walked in and headed straight to the white shirts thinking "How long ago were women wearing white shirts with ruffles, there is NO WAY I am going to find one" all the while looking through the shirts and much to my surprise I found one! I was elated! Now on the the coats. I was searching through found a red one and thought it this might do but kept looking. Then to my surprise I came across a woman's coat dress that was blue/purple with a black velvet coat! I couldn't believe my eyes, I had found the perfect coat and spent only $11 and I made it back to pick up Sarah on time!
We added a pair of glasses and - tadaaa Ben Franklin!
