They were very hungry caterpillars and they ate and ate and ate then they attached themselves to the top of the lid and we now have chrysalises!
we moved them into the butterfly house

When the chrysalises are about 7 to 10 days old, they will darken and there wing color will begin to show through. When that happens we will have butterfly's in 12 to 24 hours.
A few things we have learned about Butterflies
- Butterflies are insects and like all insects they have three body parts, the head, thorax, and abdomen and 6 legs.
- butterflies have a long tongue that they keep coiled up under their heads. It is like a straw and they use it to drink nectar.
- Butterflies go through a process called "complete metamorphosis" - eggs that hatch into caterpillars that shed its furry coat to reveal a shell called a chrysaled and after about a week a butterfly emerges and flys off to find a mate to begin the process all over again.
- Butterflies are cold-blooded and need warmth for their bodies to work. They need 60 degree weather to fly

This soulds like an amzaing kindergarten project? Harrison wants to grow butterflies and he keeps finding catepillaers (how do you spell that) in our yard and keeping them in plastic cups hoping they will turn into racoons and then butterflies. I probably need to clarify what they are actually called!
