A VISIT FROM THE COUSIONS

We spend a lot of the time around the house catching up, playing outside in the tree house and jumping on the trampoline as well as a round of golf {or two}. We headed up to Seattle for the weekend with my brother and his kids, my mom, and Gerri and James {12 of us in total} on Friday. The drive up took a very LONG 6 hours and we couldn’t have been more happy to finally get there. Our hotel, although not the nicest, was walking distance to the Space Needle so we got settled in and headed out to take in the sights. The view was beautiful from the top.

The next morning we headed out first thing  {barley time for coffee} and walked over to the Ride the Duck dock for a fun tour of the city. It was a singing, quacking {why did I buy the "quacker" for my kids?}, laughing, and seat dancing view of Seattle from land and water - we all really had a great time - and even learned a thing or two between laughing {and quacking}

{the houseboat in the middle was "the" one that was used in Sleepless in Seattle}

After the duck tour we decided to head down to the ferry docs and take a ferry over to Bremerton, however, we miscalculated the walking distance {we found out later 4+ miles from our hotel 8+ miles round trip} and ended up sending my mom and Ian, Sarah, & Emily the rest of the way in a cab {after difficulty breathing, blisters and sore feet}. Did I mention that this was the day that it was over 80 and it was humid? A tough trip for the little kids and my mom but other than some crying {from the kids not my mom} over a few skinned knees and blisters they were troupers.

We didn’t know there was a water feature in Bremerton so we were unprepared for getting wet, but it didn’t stop the girls from cooling off and enjoying the water {they never complained about being wet or cold even though we had dinner in a very air conditioned restaurant} It was the perfect place to cool off our burning feet from all the miles we put on them during the day {did I mention that for some reason I left our hotel in flip flops – let me just say OUCH!}.

The next day we were up and out of the hotel by 8:30 and off to the Pike Place Market to visit the first Starbucks and have breakfast at the Athenian Inn {they filmed Sleepless in Seattle here and even have name plaques where Tome Hanks & Rob Reiner sat} and watch the fish guys throw fish and brows the market. After an action packed weekend we headed home. There was still so much more I would like to do with the kids but I don’t know how we could have fit one more thing in so it will have to wait for another time.

{This is the restaurant that Tom Hanks & Rob Reiner had lunch in Sleepless in Seattle}

We finished up the Stern visit with pedicures for all the girls {Em and Sarah included} and bowling at Players before they headed to the airport.

I am sorry to say we didn’t play games like we have in the past {there is quite the rivalry between us} but I think it was because we watched the Olympics in the evenings. My kids so look forward to the yearly visit of their cousins and we sure hope to continue it but as the Stern kids get older {Nathan will be a Senior in HS this coming year – where dose the time go?} I know it will get harder. We just hope to have them visit for as long as we can.
