We headed over to Sunriver to attend to our neglected house and spend some time together as a family. Terry pressure washed and re-sealed the deck, cleaned out the garage, took a huge load to the dump, moved some TV's and DVD's around to the rooms that I wanted them as well as set up the stereo upstairs. What, you ask, did I do? I read {and finished} two books. Not hard books {book candy really} but two none the less. On Saturday night we met up with the Huberty's who were also over in Sunriver for vacation for dinner at our kids favorite place to eat in Bend, Kayo's Roadhouse where they serve peanuts in buckets and once you crack them you can throw the shells on the floor. I think they just love the fact that they can throw them on the floor and not get yelled at. After Dinner we headed to Pilot Butte to take a look at the views and watch the sunset.
FYI
Pilot Butte is an extinct volcano located in Bend, Oregon. It is a cinder cone which rises nearly 500 feet (150 m) above the surrounding plains. Bend is one of the very few cities in the United States with volcanoes located within their boundaries.
The next day Terry and Dave went golfing while Ericka and I took the kids to the High Desert Museum. The kids had a great time and it was a really cool place where we saw native animals, a live bird show, and even a live Civil War reenactment where the kids got enlisted and marched around for a bit with wood guns.
If you look closely at Emily she is holding her 'gun' upside down. It was interesting to walk around and talk to the actors playing the parts of the civil war people because they didn't get out of character {even going so far as to eat the beans that one of them had been cooking in a pot over a fire all day} and the kids would say things like "I cook my food in a microwave" and the actor would say "I never herd of that, I've heard of a wave in the ocean but not that". It was really interesting to listen to Ian have a conversation with a solder carving a baseball bat {baseball had just begun to be played in the East} who had a book of rules for the 'new' game. At one point during the day we were even able to watch the solders shoot the cannon and the guns. It was very loud and probably Emily's least favorite part. We had a really fun {and educational} afternoon.
Pictures of Mt. Washington and the Three Sisters on the way home.
