Today was Ian's second game of Lacrosse and I just have to say Lacrosse sure is an exciting game! Before Ian decided to play I knew nothing about the game, in fact for Ian's first practice I put all his pads on him and ran back to the car to get something and when I came back Ian had his shoes off and was taking off his pads. When I walked up to him he said "Mommmmmmmmm! They are elbow pads". Well no wonder I had a heck of a time getting them on his knees! Not only have I learned that they are indeed elbow pads I have even learned that the defenders need to defend the "island" and that the attackers {the potential scorers} and the defenders need to stay on their side of the field and that middys {sp?} run the length of the field! They rotate the players in frequently and they rotate the positions the kids play. The game is fast moving and exciting to watch and play {at least that is what Ian said}. Ian really loves the game but his favorite part are the hustle awards that the coaches sometimes give out after games. I love the hustle award also because it has to do with getting your buns out on the field and hustling and it is not tied to scoring which gives everyone an opportunity to get one. All they get is a sticker for their helmet but that is enough to get Ian out there running his buns off. So far Ian has received two hustle awards and he is thrilled!
