Today is my little boy's birthday and I can hardly believe that he is NINE years old! (where did the time go?) We (ok it was me and not we, I had a glass or two too many of wine and thought it just wasn't going for enough and thought I would help it out) bought a trip to FOX studio in a limo and a tour of the studio and then viewing a taping of a show for a group of kids and so I thought it would be a great thing to do for Ian's birthday but we need to go on a weekday that we did not have school so it is planned fro November 12th. So the party is planned but I didn't want to let his actual birthday go by without making it a special day. So I asked Ian to name 3 boys from school off the top of his head and we invited them to a movie and a sleepover at our house. (I know you’re thinking "Is she crazy?") We had a total of 6 kids at the theatre (our daughters and the 4 boys) and while Terry took the boys overnight stuff to the car I got in line to get the popcorn and drinks and as I was giving my order Emily let me know that she needed to go to the bathroom URGENTLY! All the kids decided they need to go so I sent Sarah with Emily told her to take her to the restroom (yes, I told a 6 year old to watch a 4 year old, I was desperate!). A few minutes later all the kids were back and playing but then there was a commotion when they realized that they forgot Emily. I asked the woman helping me to help the next person and went to the bathroom to get Em only to enter and find no one. I started to panic and as I walked out of the bathroom I saw an employee and in a very panicked voice said, "my daughter is missing!" He didn't react and I started walking around the place like a crazy mom who has lost a child dose when Terry walked in and figured out that something was up started helping me look for her and found her among the video games. UGH! That was scary and I hate to say it but the second child I lost in one day! (I lost track of Ian at Sarah's soccer game earlier today, we passed each other on opposites sides of the field and I didn't see him and had the same crazy mom who lost a child look going on). Once we got into the movie it all settled down and went without another incident.
After the movie we took the kids home and got some pizza and played games and indoor football (the seventh child, my husband even got in on the football game). We got the boys to bed around midnight (kind of late, I know) and at 6 am in the morning I heard Ian get up, I sent him back to bed and the next time I heard him (all of 5 minutes later) it was both Jackson and Ian heading down stairs to play the Wii game. I sent them back to bed and told them not to come out or talk until the clock in his room read 7:00am. I didn't hear another sound until my clock read 6:57 and they were headed down once again so I had to get up and make them breakfast, so needless to say I am a bit tired but when we were having pizza last night Ian said "This is the best day of my life" and thinking of that sure makes it worth it. What a wonderful feeling, to do something so simple as getting a sleep over together and have it be "the best day" I would do it again just to hear him say that again (maybe not real soon, but again).
Sarah informed me that she now wants a sleepover for her birthday but I think I got across to her that I didn't think first graders were ready for a sleep over (not to mention I KNOW I am not ready for it!)
