We pulled into our garage and when I opened the door to the car for Emily she immediately said "Mom, there is another humming bird in the window!" Right she was! The birds fly into our garage and get stuck at the top set of windows fluttering their wings getting nowhere until they are exhausted. We have rescued at least 4 or 5 of them with only one falling prey to a kitty before we even knew it was there. This is the first one that hung out in my hand for a while before flying off. All of the kids got a chance to pet it gently and I walked around the garage and to the backyard before it decided to fly out of my hand. One of the humming birds that Terry rescued actually ate from a flower while still in his hand before it flew away. Im sad when they get stuck but thrilled to be able to hold a humming bird in the palm of my hand - something I think few people get to do. It was so beautiful- bright pink on it's head and chest and bright green on wings and body. I looked it up and it is called Anna's Hummingbird. It's habitat is the entire west coast. It is also the most territorial of hummingbirds and will defend their eating area and chase other birds away which is quite fun to watch.

That is amazing! Both just holding the bird, and seeing a bird so still that is usually moving so fast! I'm sure there's a comparison there to a mothers life somewhere :)
You soooo need to submit this photo -- it will definitely win some award!!!
